Street art initiative gains momentum

Street Art Nambour is on a roll with coordinator Lorraine Taylor, who began the initiative in 2017, saying she had big plans for the future.

At the launch of the Street Art Trail Map at Stalwarts Brewery on Wednesday night, Lorraine said momentum was building with this year’s 11 murals equalling the total of previous years’ works, with more to come. Meanwhile the mural at Ken Mills Toyota has been named finalist in the Australian Street Art Awards.

“Each year Street Art Nambour grows bigger and bigger with more and more artists wanting to be displayed. It certainly is gaining momentum, we are already booking in and starting murals for next round,” she said. “There is so much happening which we will announce as we progress, but it’s all good for Nambour.”

Next year Lorraine plans to introduce a breweries and distilleries trail to compliment the street art trail.

“The brewery & distillery concept has been a game changer and we are happy to promote it, due to the quality and diversity that is now on offer in our region. There are synergies here because, after all, brewing and distilling are also artistic endeavours.”

Lorraine said Sunshine & Sons distillers and Diablo Ginger Beer at Woombye were both on board with the concept.

“A brewery and distillery trail will add the extra oomph this region could capitalise on.

“The mural for Ken Mills Toyota, created by David Hardy, has been accepted as a nomination in the Australian Street Art Awards. It is drawn in May 2021.”

In the future Lorraine said Street Art Nambour would link to other hinterland towns using Nambour as the hub.  We still have more to do here but Nambour needs help to achieve its central status again.

“Our focus is on Nambour and on ensuring artists who participate are paid for their work. All our artists are exceptional and as a team, we work with dedication and energy to reach the goal to make Nambour recognised.”
